Pennsylvania Natives, Frame and Mantle, New Album Well of Light Is Healing Our Inner Emo Kid

Frame and Mantle are healing our inner emo kid with their new album Well of Light set to be released June 27th. The band is known for the post-rock and emo-rooted sound that gives you those early 2000s feels.

This is the band’s first album release since 2019 and this is one of those releases that will give you those moody feels like back in the day during your emo phase. They released a few tracks like “Down a Thousand”, “Failsafe” and “Standstill”.

When listening to the singles, you definitely get a different emotion from each one. “Down a Thousand” has a more clean, catchy and brighter sound compared to their earlier material. The indie-emo sound is predominantly here in this track with the catchy but airy guitar sounds and the catchy hook that make you want to groove all night.

“Failsafe” is much more moody. It’s the alt-rock anthem from this album for sure. I love the inclusion of the added trumpet sound in the beginning that adds a depth to the music. This is a more emotional song lyrically. The storytelling of letting go of that inner struggle is strong in this song, but still flows perfectly with the music to still give a very upbeat sound.

When I was listening to “Standstill”, this became one of my personal favorites. It’s a very moving song that gets you to reflect on life. My favorite lyric “Sometimes life flies by// While it’s standing still//You can dry your eyes//When it's time to kill” gives that nostalgic emo feeling when you would be going through your thoughts and just reflect on what to do with yourself. The music being very melodic only just adds to the emotion and just makes you sigh and reflect.

Not wanting to giveaway more about the album since it’s still not out yet, but the overall message and concept of this album just brings me back to my high school days when all you had to worry about was finding love or healing from your first heartbreak, just enjoying life with your friends and reflecting on what the future holds for you. It showcases that raw emo/post-rock sound but still keeps that polished melody to give a good dynamic to the album.

Frame and Mantle are a band that you should definitely keep an eye out for and I can’t wait to hear more about any other releases they have in the future. Their new album will be out Friday June 27th and they do have a release show coming up on July 3rd at the Bottlerock in Pittsburgh, PA. If you’re in the area definitely check their show out and support their new album!
