Slow Crush Quench the Shoegaze Drought with Their New Album Thirst

Slow Crush are bringing a new meaning to shoegaze with their new album Thirst set to be released on August 29th via Pure Noise Records. This is the band’s third studio album and it shows the immense growth the band has achieved over the years.

Hailing all the way from Leuven, Belgium, Slow Crush are known for blending atmospheric guitar tones with hauntingly beautiful vocals provided by lead vocalist/bassist Isa Holliday so Thirst was no exception to their sound. Their new album is exploring a new theme of emotions that allows the listener to really feel like the ending of one chapter and entering a new one.

When listening to the title track of the album, it leans very much into the grunge infused shoegaze style creating a dreamlike feel to the song in the beginning but slowly adding more grit throughout. Holliday’s vocals add an ethereal tone to the song but carries so much emotion that it makes you self reflect everything in your life and crave a sense of purity. The accompanying music video gives you a visual aspect to the song allowing the viewer a physical representation of those same emotions you feel in the song. With hazy visuals and intimate close-ups, the video is a true cinematic masterpiece.

When it comes to their other singles like “Cherry”, “While You Dream Vividly” and “Bloodmoon”, you still get those dreamlike and hazy feels but with different emotions added to each. “Cherry” highlights Slow Crush’s shoegaze roots through and through with some notable guitar textures that slowly build and create beautiful layers to the song whereas “Bloodmoon” is much darker reflecting on one’s struggles and flourishing in the chaos.

Overall, Slow Crush are killing it with this new album and I can’t wait until it’s officially out to the world tomorrow. They are also heading out on tour this fall with Faetooth, Flooding, Pure Hex and Nevermind. The tour kicks off on September 4th in Allentown, PA and ends October 5th in Washington, D.C.
