I Prevail

A New Era of Aggression and Emotion for I Prevail with New Album Violent Nature

Change is never the same for everyone especially in music but for I Prevail the change is nothing but positive for the band. They recently released their new album Violent Nature and it’s everything we expected from the band: breakdowns, aggression and all the feels.

This is the first album without former clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser, who had left the band last year due to health reasons. With unclean vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe taking over the reins of both clean and unclean vocals, he began showing that he wasn’t a one trick pony with this album. We would get a taste of Vanlerberghe’s clean vocals on some songs from I Prevail’s previous work like in songs like “Hurricane” from their album TRAUMA and “Closure” from TRUE POWER, but you never realized how versatile of a singer he was until this new album. With songs like “Pray”, “Annihilate Me”, “Rain” and “Into Hell”, the strong emotion in Vanlerberghe’s vocals is so strong that you just think this is what I expect from a song by I Prevail: raw, powerful emotions.

The entire album feels like a turning point for the band by shredding certain expectations and stepping into a more personal and unfiltered sound without losing that melody that they are known for. You still get those powerful breakdowns and aggressive guitars like in the title track “Violent Nature” which gave us a taste of what the band was working on when they first started teasing new music. Truly one of the most heavy songs on the album. Then you have a song like “Rain” that has a perfect balance of dense guitars and pounding drums with a nice melodic chorus that give the song a nice weight to it. Honorable mention is “Into Hell”, probably one of my favorite songs from I Prevail that they have released to date. A song that Vanlerberghe wrote for his fiance, “Into Hell” has such an emotional vulnerability to the song by blending moody guitars and raw vocals that are not only heavy but melodic and just fit the entire structure of what the album is.

I Prevail are a band that know how to blend the raw and heavy with soft and melodic sounds beautifully. They are being true to who they are with this album and I expect nothing less from the Grammy nominated band. Check out Violent Nature out now and let us know what song on the album is your favorite!
